Walk on, walk off: not worrying about the boat between trips

Yachtshare berths at the marina

Most people who dream about owning a yacht picture the good days: leaving the marina on a clear morning, lunch in a quiet bay, kids on the bow, a sunset sail home.

What they under-picture is everything in between. Antifouling. Insurance renewals. The engine that needs a look after a wet week. The berth invoice. Whether the freezer died while nobody was aboard. Whether the tender is still where you left it.

That gap — the time you are not on the water — is where a lot of sole ownership quietly turns into a second job. Yachtshare is built around closing that gap.

The point of the programme

Yachtshare is fractional ownership of a named yacht: typically a 1/10th share, with 33 days per year plus standby, based at the marina.

The product is not “cheaper boating” as a slogan. It is smarter ownership for people who want a real share and real days on the water — without carrying the full berthing, maintenance and admin load alone.

The lead idea is simple: you should not have to worry about the boat when you are not using it.

What walk-on, walk-off actually means

On a booked day you arrive at the marina ready to cast off. Food, drink, clothes, and a plan for Moreton Bay (or further, when your syndicate’s season allows) are your job. The yacht is waiting turnkey: cleaned, fuelled, freshwater topped up, and ready to go.

You board from 9:00 am, enjoy your days on the water, and return by 6:00 pm on your final day. Secure the boat, take your gear and rubbish, lock up, and step back onto the pontoon.

That is the walk-off. The service team picks up the turnaround the following morning — clean, refuel, freshwater, consumables — so the next owner steps onto a yacht that is ready again.

You are not pretending the work disappears. You are leaving berthing, maintenance and day-to-day care with the Yachtshare team, so your calendar between trips stays yours.

What you stop carrying alone

Sole ownership often means you are the marina desk, the service manager and the worry-wart between weekends. Shared ownership with professional management changes the load:

  • Berthing and day-to-day marina routines stay managed for you
  • Cleaning and turnaround sit with the service team after you leave
  • Insurance, registration and scheduled maintenance are looked after for you — not a personal chore list you rebuild every spring
  • The online roster handles fair access across the year — including weekends and holidays — instead of informal “who had the boat last” debates

Days that feel like ownership, not logistics

A 1/10th share gives you 33 days per year, organised across three four-month trimesters. Book one-to-seven-day blocks through the roster. Standby days can open up at short notice without eating into your quota.

That structure is how owners fit real sailing around work and family: a midweek bay day, a long weekend at Horseshoe Bay or Tangalooma, buddy-boating with fellow owners, a WAGS twilight, or — on selected syndicates — a seasonal winter window in the Whitsundays on the yacht you own a share in, not a bareboat stranger.

The lifestyle stays yours. The intervening weeks do not have to.

Why this lands for busy owners

Yachtshare owners are often people who already know how to pack a lot into a year: business owners, professionals, retirees who want more life on the water without another project at home. They are not looking for a holiday club. They want genuine ownership of a yacht, a home base at the marina, and a community that shows up on the pontoon.

If the dream is time under sail — and the deal-breaker has always been everything that happens when you are ashore — walk-on, walk-off is the answer Yachtshare is designed around.
